Description
Renovation of an apartment on Praça de Espanha, in a building dating from the second half of the twentieth century, in one of Lisbon's most emblematic districts. The intervention stems from a careful reading of the existing fabric: it retains the central circulation axis that organises the relationship between private and shared spaces, and works with surgical precision, keeping demolitions to a minimum and treating structural alterations with rigour.
The opening between the living room and the kitchen creates visual continuity and expands the sense of space without compromising the privacy of the bedrooms, while the repositioning of partitions maximises the intake of natural light. The materials favour quality of construction — natural timber floors, large-format ceramic in the wet areas and bespoke joinery —, in a neutral and timeless palette.
Intervention
- Surgical intervention on the existing fabric, with minimal demolition
- A more open plan between the living room and kitchen, preserving the privacy of the bedrooms
- New double-glazed window frames with thermal break and efficient climate control
- Timber floors, large-format ceramic and bespoke joinery
