Description

Proposal for the new Tavira fish market, developed as a competition entry, in strict compliance with the brief — setbacks, number of floors, ceiling height, façade alignments and layouts. The regulatory constraints were reinterpreted to build a contemporary image, integrated into its physical and social context.

The building is defined by a cubic volume clad in a semi-translucent material, set on a base of exposed concrete — almost transparent, merging with the horizon yet anchored by solid elements. Two stacked volumes rise to 4.85 m in height, with differing threshold levels that clearly separate the users' area from the quay and dispatch zone.

Intervention
  • Competition entry faithful to the brief
  • Semi-translucent cubic volume on an exposed concrete base
  • Two threshold levels separating users from the quay and dispatch
  • Contemporary architecture integrated into the riverfront
