Description

Conversion of a former street-level shop into a ground-floor apartment in Rato, Lisbon. The façade preserves the character of the street — salmon-toned render, lioz stone surrounds and timber joinery painted bottle green, with iron railings and planters — returning a residential use to an obsolete commercial space without breaking with the building's identity.

Inside, the plan opens into a continuous living, dining and kitchen space, articulated by arches that soften the transition between areas. The materiality is warm and refined: micro-cement walls, oak wood flooring, worktop and accents in natural stone, and bespoke joinery integrating storage and shelving. Natural light enters through the generous openings of the former shop window, now French casement windows.
