Urban renovation
Lisbon, Portugal

Built
Large-scale residential renovation in a mid-twentieth-century building. The layout, generous but heavily partitioned, hampered spatial flow — a legacy of the housing programmes of the period that the project set out to reverse.
The approach favoured respect for what was already there: surgical demolitions, retention of the structural frame and of the main corridor as the backbone of the plan. The relationship between rooms was rethought, opening visual axes that connect the living room to the outdoors. The layout evolved from a partitioned T3 into a T3+1 with a study, and all building services were replaced, improving energy performance.
